Nauset Light

Mud Head Study of Robert DelRusso
A method of teaching about color and light made famous by Charles Hawthorne at the Cape Cod School of Art. Features are just spots of color placed to create the illusion of a nose or an eye, without any linear drawing. Hair, necklines, shoulders are painted with large color notes to express the time of day and/or weather conditions. Attention is paid more to shape than details. This lesson in color massing and simplicity can be translated to all subject matter.
